Between Wembley Stadium in London and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, over 172,000 people attended the concerts. A satellite link was used to beam the concerts into homes worldwide and the crowds at one stadium could see the performance at the other. Organizers estimated the number of viewers at 1.9 billion over 150 countries, and almost $285 million was raised for relief efforts.
At 6:41 p.m. in London, Queen took the stage at Wembley Stadium. What followed has been described as "20 minutes that changed music" and was voted by fellow musicians as the greatest live performance of all time. Queen's set blew the audience, and the musicians waiting to play, away.
I'm reliving this performance today...you should too!
