Boxing

When I was a little kid, one of my father's favorite things to do was to watch boxing. He would sit there for hours and watch two men duke it out until one of them fell over. As a child, I didn't get it. I loved baseball and football, but this was just plain boring.

But as I got a little older, I started to get a lot more interested in the sport. There was an lot more to it than just two men bashing each other's brains out. There was strategy and finesse mixed in with all of that power.

Well, SOME strategy and finesse. Dad started getting some pay-per-view bouts and that's when I first saw Mike Tyson fight. At the time, I was stunned. I had never seen someone hit so hard before. Some of his fights lasted under a minute. It was unreal.

Of course, like any sport, as you watch more and more of it you come to a greater understanding of the sport. So, yes. Mike Tyson was one of the greatest fighters the sport had seen. But he was just that...a fighter. Not a boxer. And when you look at the few men that stopped him - Douglas, Holyfield, and Lewis especially - you see that they were all boxers.

Anyway, I miss watching boxing. I think I'll have to plan to watch a fight soon! In the meantime, here are some amazing rounds of boxing:

Updates

Wow. I am bad at this whole blogging thing. I can't seem to get into a regular rhythm...but I'm gonna change that!

Let's see...Laura and I are training for 5K in Manchester, VT. It's been a LONG time since I've trained for a race, but we found a program that does a slow buildup and it seems to be working well so far. Will this be my gateway back into running? Perhaps!

The new car is great! I'm really enjoying the fact that I have a vehicle I don't have to worry about. I have noticed that my driving style has changed though. I used to not care if someone cracked into the Civic. Hell, I probably wanted it to happen so they would total it and pay me off. But not with this car. Ain't it pretty??

Anyway, for over a year now I've been posting a "Song O'The Day" as my Google Chat status message. Laura made a great suggestion that might help me blog more - cross post the songs to here. So here is today's song, a true earworm. With a video that is more than a little racy!
